The Bodleian’s newest Book Storage Facility (BSF) has acquired its millionth item.
The book, a 1918 copy of The Journal of General Physiology, arrived at the 13-acre Swindon site on Friday. It will find a space on one of the facility’s 95,000 shelves.
The BSF was built to store items such as books, periodicals, maps and manuscripts previously housed in the 11-storey bookstack in the New Bodleian and the Underground Bookstore under Radcliffe Square.
Ideal storage conditions and little space constraint mean the BSF can support the growth of the Library’s collection for the next 20 years.
