Thames Valley Police have confirmed that the man found murdered in Southmoor, just outside Oxford, was 50 year old Physics Professor, Steven Rawlings, a Fellow and Tutor at St Peter’s College. 
Police were called to the residence on Laurel Drive on Wednesday night after receiving a call from his neighbours. Professor Rawlings was pronounced dead at the scene, though a post-mortem has proved inconclusive as to the cause of death. A 49 year old man has been arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
Professor Rawlings completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Cambridge University before moving to Oxford. From 2006-2010 he was the head of the the sub-department of Astrophysics.
The College’s Master, Mark Damazer CBE, wrote on the College’s website: ”He was a much liked and admired tutor and colleague within the College and will be greatly missed. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Linda.”
