Style O’Clock: Sports Luxe

By Raffaella Tomassi

Style O’Clock’s had a tough time of it over the past few weeks. First it was ugly fashion shoes, and now the concept of ‘Sports Luxe’, two words which do not have a natural affinity to each other, one conjuring images of glamour and luxury, the other of smelly PE kits from the days of yore (or school as it was otherwise known). However, be it the influence of the Olympics or otherwise, it cannot be denied that fashion’s gone a little bit sporty of late. There are numerous ways to pick up on this trend, be it racer back vests or luxury sports jackets but by far the easiest way is through shoes. The high top is back in a big way, and  Liberty printed Nike high tops, like the ones featured below, are a great way to make your average trainer a bit more chic. Finally, if you’re a die hard heel wearer, fear not, the high top is also available in wedge form!

The easiest and often most flattering way to wear high tops is with a pair of jeans. Add some statement jewellery and a bright coloured blazer to dress the outfit up a bit for casual yet classy chic.

Denim and high tops go hand in hand, but it need not always be worn in the form of jeans. Wear with a simple black dress then throw on a vintage denim jacket over the top to bring back the 90s in style.

The high top is not just a day time look; for an injection of Shoreditch style turn to American Apparel’s classic disco pants for a very shiny yet oh so eye catching look.
